About The Position

Duke Energy’s Nuclear Fuels Engineering department is seeking a nuclear professional to join the Brunswick and Oconee Nuclear Design (BOND) group. The group designs and analyzes fuel cycles for Brunswick Nuclear Plant in Southport, North Carolina, and Oconee Nuclear Station in Seneca, South Carolina, and performs nuclear criticality safety work for Duke Energy’s six nuclear power plants in North and South Carolina. This position supports BWR core design at Brunswick Nuclear Plant. Depending on the successful candidate’s qualifications, the hiring manager may fill the position at a higher level within the job hierarchy. Students enrolled in an ABET-accredited program and expecting to graduate in December 2026 or May 2027, as well as current graduates, will be considered. The position works in a hybrid office/remote environment after onboarding. The typical schedule is four 10-hour days, with two days in the office and two remote. Hybrid employees must live within a reasonable commute—no more than 50 miles one way—of their designated Duke Energy facility and are expected to report onsite as required, averaging two full workdays per regular workweek. The role involves some travel to other Duke sites, industry sites, and industry conferences or meetings, and occasional off-hours emergent work. Employees may have Emergency Response Organization responsibilities, including callouts with a defined response time and an on-call rotation requiring fitness for duty. The position requires eligibility for nuclear site unescorted access/security clearance.
