About The Position

Duke Energy is hiring a Protection & Controls Engineer to support transmission substation projects across the Duke Energy Indiana Territory. The role involves designing, developing, implementing, and supporting protection, control, SCADA, and automation systems for transmission substations and switchyards. The engineer provides support for capital, maintenance, emergent, and grid modernization projects, working on a multidisciplinary team from concept development through design, construction, commissioning, and closeout. Assignments may be in protection engineering or controls engineering. An Engineer I solves specialized engineering problems with close supervision and is expected to develop skills and greater independence, applying fundamental concepts and procedures. An Engineer II solves complex specialized problems with general supervision and applies fundamental concepts and procedures to complex, varied work while developing advanced skills and greater independence. Hybrid work combines remote and onsite work after onboarding, and hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute of their designated Duke Energy facility. Travel may be needed for face-to-face interactions with engineering and relay field personnel. The role also involves hands-on work in a lab environment with protection and SCADA-based devices for template development, testing, and debugging. Travel requirements are 5–15%.
