Engineer I, Mechanical (R6302)

Shield AI•San Diego, CA
•$81,000 - $140,000

About The Position

Shield AI is hiring a Mechanical Engineer for its Mechanisms team to contribute to the design, development, and integration of mechanical systems for autonomous aircraft. Work may focus on gearbox development and integration, including gears, shafts, bearings, housings, lubrication systems, and related interfaces. The engineer will complete well-defined tasks with guidance from experienced engineers and collaborate with internal and external partners to design, prototype, test, and release hardware. The role offers practical experience across the product-development lifecycle while supporting performance, schedule, and reliability goals. The position supports mechanism and power-transmission design, CAD modeling and documentation, component sizing and selection, foundational engineering analysis, prototype development and testing, aircraft integration, and technical issue investigation. The engineer collaborates with multiple engineering and production teams and follows established engineering, configuration-management, and product-release processes. Assigned work includes planning tasks, communicating progress and risks, and incorporating feedback.
