About The Position

The current vacancy is in the Water Department. These are multi-divisional classifications, and the positions may be hired for different divisions in different departments. Engineer I: Under general supervision, performs entrance-level professional civil engineering work in connection with surveying, designing, construction, and maintenance of Public Works projects and surface water and groundwater projects; and performs other work as required. Engineer II: Under supervision, this class performs work of average difficulty involving technical and professional work making design layouts, engineering calculations, and miscellaneous studies in the City Engineering Department.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college with a degree in Engineering (for Engineer I)
  • Possession of a valid certificate as an Engineer in Training by the California State Board of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers may be substituted for the required education (for Engineer I)
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in civil engineering (for Engineer II)
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification (for Engineer II)
  • Minimum one year experience in the practice of civil engineering (for Engineer II)
  • Possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training Certificate from the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers (for Engineer II)
  • Minimum two years’ experience in the practice of civil engineering (for Engineer II)
  • Possession of a valid Class “C” California driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Performs entrance-level professional civil engineering work in connection with surveying, designing, construction, and maintenance of Public Works projects and surface water and groundwater projects.
