About The Position

This role provides support for manufacturing equipment and processes to meet customer and business requirements. The Engineer I assists with developing mechanical knowledge and skills, provides technical expertise in mechanical design, and offers daily manufacturing support to resolve process issues. They also participate in projects, support new product commercialization, and coordinate equipment fabrication and installation. The Engineer II provides leadership and technical direction for process designs, ensures efficient product and process utilization through statistical analysis, supports commercialization trials, and identifies opportunities for improvement and cost savings. They also identify root causes of manufacturing issues and reverse engineer machine components for improved functionality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalent with 2 years Process/Mechanical Engineering experience.
  • Alternatively, non-degreed participants with six (6) years of experience demonstrating required skills and aptitude are acceptable.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D for part and plant drawings.
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Excel, Word, Power Point, and Project.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate utilizing written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Well organized with the ability to support and participate in multiple projects and tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to develop training materials and effectively train adult learners.
  • Capacity to enhance education and technical skills.
  • Experience with SPC (Statistical Process Control), Process Capability, and data-driven problem-solving.
  • Experience with team-based problem solving and process resolution.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Electrical Engineering) or a relevant scientific based degree plus 3 years of direct process support engineering experience required or equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Demonstrated process engineering improvement/knowledge to drive efficiency and cost savings.
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of statistical based data to identify and definitively prove benefit for current and future state.
  • Experience in implementing lean practices.
  • Demonstrated track record of meeting multiple objectives, team building skills and excellent communication skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • 3D/Inventor experience a plus.
  • Supervisory experience desired.
  • Six sigma certification preferred.
  • Experience with automated packaging equipment and sanitary processing (food, liquids, cosmetic or medical) and experience in machine installs, checkouts and acceptance testing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support to ensure a safe and healthful environment and compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Develops expertise with manufacturing equipment and processes to support manufacturing initiatives.
  • Assists with the development of mechanical knowledge and skills for technical resources.
  • Provides technical expertise regarding mechanical design of components, equipment, and processes.
  • Provides daily manufacturing support to analyze and resolve process issues related to equipment, quality, and productivity.
  • Assists with the development of machine centerlines and good run settings.
  • Participates in and/or provides coordination and leadership for projects, including continuous improvement, equipment modifications, and installation projects.
  • Utilizes tools to ensure objectives are met with defined results, Scope Documents, and visual management tools.
  • Provides technical support for the commercialization of new products, processes, or systems.
  • Coordinates the fabrication, operation, installation, and/or repair of equipment and processes.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities related to safety, quality, productivity, and cost.
  • Provides support to purchasing by providing equipment specifications, resolving equipment or parts issues, and realizing cost savings opportunities.
  • Analyzes production, waste, and delay information to identify opportunities to maximize output, reduce waste, and improve asset efficiencies.

  • Provides leadership and technical direction to ensure process designs conform to sanitary standards and meet product requirements.
  • Ensures the use of proven methodologies (statistical based analysis) for efficient product and process utilization.
  • Supports commercialization trials.
  • Identifies and capitalizes on opportunities for process efficiency, continuous improvement, associate development, and cost savings.
  • Identifies root cause to manufacturing issues.
  • Reverse engineers machine components to improve functionality and reliability.
