About The Position

This position serves as an Assistant District Engineer in the Boone District Office. The primary responsibilities include the review and approval of driveway permits, encroachment agreements, subdivision plans, and road additions. The role also involves supervising Engineering Technicians, distributing workload, tracking permits, and conducting performance evaluations. Additionally, the position requires performing on-site inspections to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications for various permits and agreements, as well as preparing deficiency letters for road additions. The role demands the ability to read and interpret construction plans and communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including engineers, developers, the public, and public officials. A key aspect of the role is identifying non-compliance with NCDOT standards and communicating deficiencies to applicants. Excellent organizational and time-management skills are essential for accurate and timely completion of permits, agreements, and projects. The position also requires the ability to write clear and concise memos and reports that convey technical information and engineering concepts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with engineers, developers, members of the public, public officials, and other personnel.
  • Ability to review driveway permit and encroachments plans, identify areas that are not in compliance with NCDOT standards, and respond to the applicant with a list of deficiencies.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to write memos and reports that clearly convey technical information and engineering concepts.

Responsibilities
