  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, at minimum.
  • At least 2 years of experience analyzing ground support equipment (GSE) or tooling in the automotive, aerospace, or a similar industry.
  • Experience creating and validating finite element models using Ansys or NX Simulation with Nastran.
  • Experience performing FEA with 1D, 2D, and 3D elements on models containing weldments and machined parts.
  • Proficiency in creating free-body diagrams to calculate internal loads and reaction forces, and in simplifying and idealizing structural problems of varying complexity.
  • Extensive experience analyzing steel and aluminum tooling, including machining fixtures and weldments, using hand calculations.
  • Proficiency in bolted-joint hand calculations, including bolt preload, joint stiffness, shear-tension interaction, and insert pull-out.
  • Proficiency in welded-joint hand calculations, including required size, length, effective throat, direct and resultant stress, and failure modes.
  • Proficiency in performing modal analysis for vibration-fixture design.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Familiarity with applicable structural codes such as AISC-360, ASME B30 and B31, and ASME BTH-1.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Self-motivation and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to clearly communicate analytical findings to technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Perform strength assessments of tooling and ground support equipment using classical analysis techniques and finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Document and review stress analyses to support release of engineering drawings and related documentation.
  • Mentor tooling designers on best practices in stress, stability, and fracture analysis.
  • Provide technical guidance on design concepts, including risk, cost, and performance trade-offs.
  • Support cross-functional teams with input for design development, analysis, and trade studies.
  • Lead conceptual and detailed analysis of tooling and equipment for manufacturing and assembly of structural components, mechanical and actuated systems, and hydraulic and fluid systems.
  • Serve as the technical point of contact and responsible party for vendor-developed tooling projects.
  • Create free-body diagrams, perform hand calculations and FEA/FEM analyses, and release analysis in Windchill PDM.
