Engineer - Full Stack

Verizon•Basking Ridge, NJ

About The Position

Verizon is building an internal API Gateway platform for a global network engineering organization. The platform consolidates network operations, project management, and AI-assisted tools, using production data center inventory from Cisco Nexus, Pica8, and Arista to support infrastructure decisions such as site and technology refreshes, NAC deployments, and switch migrations. This is a hands-on, end-to-end engineering role involving API and schema design, Vue.js views, and AI agent integrations. The engineer will develop and deploy platform features used by network engineers, working across the database, API, user interface, AI agent, and production deployment lifecycle. The role includes collaborating with network engineers to turn operational needs into shipped features and debugging issues across application and platform boundaries. This is a hybrid role with a defined work location, including working from home and a minimum of three days per week in the office. Scheduled weekly hours are 40.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or one or more years of relevant work experience.
  • At least one year of relevant work experience, demonstrated through work experience, military experience, or specialized training.
  • Experience with JavaScript and Node.js, including asynchronous patterns, REST handler design, and error handling.
  • Experience with AI agents or LLM tool-use patterns, such as MCP, function calling, or agent orchestration.
  • Frontend fundamentals, including Vue.js or React, HTML/CSS, browser networking, and dashboard state management.

Nice To Haves

  • Network engineering domain knowledge, including Cisco Nexus, Pica8, Arista, NAC, VXLAN, or data center refresh workflows.
  • Strong SQL and relational modeling skills; Postgres experience preferred, including migrations, joins, and parameterized queries.
  • API design discipline, including input validation, versioning, idempotency, authentication, and rate limiting.
  • Git workflow proficiency, including branching, pull request hygiene, disciplined commits, and understanding staged versus unstaged changes.
  • Experience debugging across boundaries by interpreting platform errors and tracing failures from UI to API, database, or external system.
  • Security-aware coding experience, including credential vaults, secrets handling, least privilege, and production versus non-production boundaries.
  • Clear written communication and the ability to turn ambiguous requests into scoped work items and actionable documentation.
  • Experience with project management systems and concepts such as PMO, epics, stories, and tasks, and integrations with them.
  • Prior work on internal developer platforms or low-code/API-gateway tooling.
  • Experience with ServiceNow, CMDB, or IT asset management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build Node.js REST APIs backed by Postgres, including versioning, input schemas, caching, and hybrid non-production/production authentication models.
  • Build widgets and Vue.js views that present network inventory and operational metrics, including dashboards, site status, and work-item boards.
  • Configure and extend AI agents, including MCP servers, tool bindings, and prompt design, to support network engineers’ daily operations.
  • Model relational data for work-item tracking, project management, and CMDB-adjacent inventory.
  • Own features through the full lifecycle, from schema migrations and APIs through widgets, agent tools, pull requests, and production deployment.
  • Debug issues across platform security policies, credential vaults, database connection pool exhaustion, and agent tool-call failures.
  • Collaborate with network engineers to translate operational requests into shipped features.
  • Ship end-to-end features used weekly by network engineers, reduce manual work in a recurring operational workflow, and extend agent capabilities so engineers can get answers conversationally.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • Short- and long-term disability insurance.
  • Basic and supplemental life insurance and AD&D insurance.
  • Identity theft protection, pet insurance, and group home and auto insurance.
  • Matched 401(k) savings plan.
  • Up to 8 company-paid holidays per year and up to 6 personal days per year.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Adoption assistance.
  • Tuition assistance.
  • Other incentives and an award-winning total rewards package.
  • Potential premium pay, including overtime, shift differential, holiday pay, and allowances, depending on the role.
  • Up to 15 days of vacation per year for newly hired employees, increasing with additional service.
