Engineer - Fluid Systems Sr

BLUE ORIGIN•Denver, CO
•$145,188 - $203,263

About The Position

This role is part of Blue Origin’s Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Moon landers and related products. The Senior Fluids Engineer will develop advanced fluid-management technologies for spaceflight waste-management applications, with a focus on researching, designing, analyzing, and validating two-phase fluid-separation systems. The work includes advancing understanding of liquid–gas flow behavior across multiple regimes in microgravity and developing fluid-system solutions for space vehicles. The position calls for a strong background in fluid dynamics, two-phase flow, thermal-fluid systems, and engineering analysis, with the ability to translate complex physics into practical hardware. The engineer will work with multidisciplinary teams, take a hands-on approach to testing and validation, and contribute to reliable, high-performance systems for human space exploration. Relocation is provided, travel is expected up to 30% of the time, and interviews include a technical assessment. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of aerospace or fluids engineering experience (or a similar discipline).
  • Knowledge of liquid–gas two-phase flow, including flow regimes, pressure drop, and phase separation.
  • Experience with microfluidics, capillary-driven flow, and fluid behavior in microgravity environments.
  • Proficiency in Creo Parametric, Model Based Definition, and structural analysis.
  • Proficiency in standard fits, tolerance stacks, and GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with air–liquid separators and two-phase flow systems, including design, analysis, testing, and performance evaluation.
  • Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for airflow, thermal, and fluid-flow simulations to validate and optimize engineering designs.
  • Knowledge of typical use, constraints, and specification of fluid components used in tubing and piping systems, such as valves, regulators, and pumps.
  • Knowledge of standard components, installation, and fabrication methods of piping systems, including pipe stock, fittings, connections, valves, fasteners, structural members, and welding.
  • Experience with electrical control systems and architectures used for fluid-system valve actuation, including command, power, instrumentation, and feedback interfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, model, and validate fluid systems using analytical methods and simulation tools.
  • Develop design drawings and analysis for production release processes.
  • Design, execute, and analyze experiments to characterize system performance and validate design assumptions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to integrate fluid systems into aerospace and spaceflight vehicles.
  • Prepare technical documentation, engineering reports, and design presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure fluid-system designs comply with applicable safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in technical and design reviews and provide engineering recommendations to drive continuous product improvement.
