About The Position

Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing entry level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives. This role involves technical expertise, leadership, planning, problem-solving, communication, interpersonal skills, decision-making, and business awareness. The position requires the application of theory to solve well-defined problems, assisting higher-level engineers, and gaining familiarity with relevant standards, codes, and equipment. Coordination of work activities, adherence to policies, and effective collaboration are essential. Input to project planning, cost estimation, and monitoring project status are also key aspects. The role encourages initiative in problem-solving, effective communication, and networking with peers. Decision-making skills are developed under guidance, and an understanding of customer needs and environmental responsibility is expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering/technology from an ABET-accredited program (exceptions may be approved).
  • Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam in preparation for future licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.
  • Must successfully complete the Physical Abilities Test (PAT).
  • For Engineer/Engineering Technologist (typically requires 2+ years of related experience): Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering/technology from an ABET-accredited program (ABET accreditation is preferred).
  • For Engineer/Engineering Technologist Senior (typically requires 4+ years of related experience): Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering technology from an ABET-accredited program (ABET accreditation is preferred).
  • For Engineer/Engineering Technologist Principal (typically requires 8+ years of related experience): Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering/technology from an ABET-accredited program (ABET accreditation is preferred).
  • For Engineer/Engineering Technologist Principal: Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is strongly encouraged but not required (exceptions may be approved).
  • For Engineer/Engineering Technologist Principal: Candidates with a PE license issued in Puerto Rico must provide confirmation that the license aligns with NCEES standards.
  • An acceptable alternative to an ABET-accredited Electrical Engineering/Technology degree is: A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering/technology from a non-ABET-accredited program, and a master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering/Technology from a university with an ABET-accredited Engineering Technology bachelor's program.
  • Must successfully complete the Physical Abilities Test (PAT).

Nice To Haves

  • Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam in preparation for future licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering/ Technology is preferred; however, candidates with an Engineering degree will also be considered.
  • ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accreditation is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is strongly encouraged but not required.
  • Active participation in professional and business organizations is encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Perform entry-level engineering work activities and projects.
  • Apply engineering knowledge to achieve assigned objectives safely, effectively, efficiently, and economically.
  • Apply theory to solve well-defined problems or provide analysis with guidance.
  • Assist higher-level engineers in handling well-defined portions of more complex problems and analyses.
  • Gain familiarity with standards, codes, and regulations relevant to the area of assignment.
  • Gain familiarity with pertinent equipment, materials, systems, and business processes.
  • Coordinate work activities of others as required to resolve routine engineering tasks.
  • Perform work activities as assigned and coached by higher-level employees.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with others in both supplying information and seeking assistance as necessary.
  • Provide input to routine project planning documents related to scheduling.
  • Understand the use of scheduling techniques (CPM, PERT, flow charts, etc.) for budget and planning activities.
  • Monitor project status and recommend action accordingly.
  • Prepare cost estimates using established standards.
  • Develop understanding of the workflow for routine engineering projects.
  • Accomplish work according to plans and schedules established by higher-level employees.
  • Actively seek out information and understanding of engineering problems and solution techniques applicable to area of responsibility.
  • Apply basic techniques to perform analysis associated with the resolution of routine technical problems.
  • Use initiative in looking for opportunities and presenting new ideas and new approaches.
  • Assist and participate in the preparation of reports and technical papers.
  • Assimilate information and instructions readily.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and present ideas clearly.
  • Listen to and understand instructions, and request clarification as required.
