About The Position

Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing entry level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives. This posting is for multiple levels: Engineer/Engineering Technologist Assoc., Engineer/Engineering Technologist, Engineer/Engineering Technologist Senior, and Engineer/Engineering Technologist Principal.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering/technology from an ABET-accredited program (exceptions may be approved).
  • Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam in preparation for future licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.
  • Must successfully complete the Physical Abilities Test (PAT).
  • For Engineer/Engineering Technologist: Typically requires 2+ years of related experience.
  • For Engineer/Engineering Technologist Senior: Typically requires 4+ years of related experience.
  • For Engineer/Engineering Technologist Principal: Typically requires 8+ years of related experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is strongly encouraged but not required for Principal level.
  • Candidates with a PE license issued in Puerto Rico must provide confirmation that the license aligns with NCEES standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam in preparation for future licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering/ Technology is preferred; however, candidates with an Engineering degree will also be considered.
  • ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accreditation is preferred.
  • An acceptable alternative is a non-ABET bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering/ technology combined with a master’s degree or PhD in electrical Engineering/Technology from a university that offers an ABET-accredited undergraduate Engineering Technology program.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is strongly encouraged but not required.
  • Active participation in professional and business organizations is encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Performs entry-level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge.
  • Assists higher-level engineers in handling well-defined portions of more complex problems and analyses.
  • Coordinates work activities of others as required to resolve routine engineering tasks.
  • Monitors project status and recommends action accordingly.
  • Prepares cost estimates using established standards.
  • Assists and participates in the preparation of reports and technical papers.
  • Applies basic techniques to perform analysis associated with the resolution of routine technical problems.
  • Uses initiative in looking for opportunities and presenting new ideas and new approaches.
  • Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing and presents ideas clearly.
  • Listens to and understands instructions, and requests clarification as required.
  • Begins networking with peers to share information and encourage cooperation.
  • Contributes to team decision-making.
  • Applies economic analysis techniques in problem solving.
  • Pursues effective ways to protect and enhance the environment while providing reliable electricity at a competitive cost.
