About The Position

This position is intended for the Propulsion Plant Signatures group in Department E46 Signatures & Hydrodynamics. The candidate will be responsible for working with senior engineers and their supervisor to complete tasks, learn how to adapt knowledge in the practical use of the design of Navy ships, conduct technical analysis, along with presenting and documenting technical analysis. This position will work as part of team with other engineers from different engineering groups within NNS and along with external partners or vendors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • US Citizenship Required for this Position: Yes
  • Must be detail-oriented, and able to work in a team environment in order to achieve goals and meet timelines.
  • Must be a quick learner and able to apply new skills to perform acoustic analysis on new ship designs or concepts.
  • Must be able to synthesize a valid approach to a problem and present plans to senior engineers and supervisor with high level direction.
  • Good communication and writing skills will be required in order to present work to peers and customers.
  • Must be able to write reports and presentations with proper technical writing practices and documented rigor.
  • Must be able to comprehend and apply applicable MIL and industry engineering standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and/or course work in acoustics or vibrations is preferred in order to analyze acoustic engineering issues in ship designs.
  • Understanding of the principles of fluid dynamics, machinery design, thermodynamics, and structural design.
  • Knowledge or experience with US Navy mechanical and fluid ship systems is preferred.
  • Experience with acoustic transfer functions, acoustic predictions, acoustic or vibration testing, and digital signal processing, use of MATLAB is a plus but not required.
  • Functional ability with MATLAB.
  • Functional ability with Finite Element Analysis, preferably Abaqus, for structural acoustic analysis.
  • Functional ability with Statistical Energy Analysis, preferably SEAM, for structural acoustic analysis.
  • DOD Secret Level Security Clearance is preferred but not required to start.

Responsibilities

  • Applies electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing.
  • Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems.
  • Working with senior engineers and their supervisor to complete tasks.
  • Learning how to adapt knowledge in the practical use of the design of Navy ships.
  • Conducting technical analysis.
  • Presenting and documenting technical analysis.
  • Working as part of a team with other engineers from different engineering groups within NNS and along with external partners or vendors.
  • Provide a quality first level of technical review to peer’s work.
