About The Position

This position is for the lead electrical engineer in the FORD Class Valve Actuator Engineering team. The selected candidate will support the development of a new electro-mechanical actuator series and support in-service electro-mechanical actuators. Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
US Citizenship Required

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with motor controllers and circuit card design
Familiarity with the induction and permanent magnet motors
Experience with MATLAB/Simulink

Responsibilities

Design of new actuator motors and controller circuit card assemblies
Electrical qualification of the new actuators, which includes Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) testing, Electrical Power (MIL-STD-1399) testing, Motor Characterization testing, and Operational testing
Support root-cause analysis of technical issues with in-service actuators
Manage obsolescence of in-service and future actuators
Mentor and develop junior electrical engineers
