About The Position

This position is for the lead electrical engineer in the FORD Class Valve Actuator Engineering team. The selected candidate will support the development of a new electro-mechanical actuator series and support in-service electro-mechanical actuators. Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • US Citizenship Required

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with motor controllers and circuit card design
  • Familiarity with the induction and permanent magnet motors
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink

Responsibilities

  • Design of new actuator motors and controller circuit card assemblies
  • Electrical qualification of the new actuators, which includes Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) testing, Electrical Power (MIL-STD-1399) testing, Motor Characterization testing, and Operational testing
  • Support root-cause analysis of technical issues with in-service actuators
  • Manage obsolescence of in-service and future actuators
  • Mentor and develop junior electrical engineers
