About The Position

This position is the diesel generator electrical and control system lead, accountable to the diesel generator lead engineer, supporting the GERALD R. FORD Class Aircraft Carriers. Responsibilities require the candidate to develop a thorough understanding of the electrical design with emphasis on the digital control system with expectation of establishing a long-term presence as a subject matter expert. The system is a large 16-cylinder diesel engine with an asynchronous generator. Duties include troubleshooting support for operational fleet and new construction issues, new unit procurement technical support and deliverable approvals, maintenance of technical ordering requirements, and component technical manuals, development of field change packages. Additionally, duties require lifecycle design management to include; regular maintenance requirements reviews, development of field change proposals, documentation of drawings and design bases, parts catalogue and obsolescence management, sustainability and design improvement initiatives. Team reports to the Machinery section of the GERALD R. FORD Class Aircraft Carrier propulsion and reactor engineering planning yard (PREPY).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting Navy/DoD programs, preferably Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, that includes interfacing with NAVSEA and its prime contractors, equipment suppliers, and shipyard trades and engineering
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with end-user support and troubleshooting
  • Experience working with suppliers on product development and improvement
  • Detailed design knowledge of power-generating equipment at a large scale
  • Demonstrate basic engineering project management skills (e.g., planning, organizing, monitoring, reporting, and leading meetings and briefings)
  • Experience leading a technical project team of career-level and junior engineers
  • Ability to work with multiple departments, suppliers, and customers to accomplish complex technical and project objectives
  • Desire to teach and mentor junior engineers by developing formal and informal training in an individual, classroom, and hands-on setting
  • Engineers from all ABET-accredited disciplines are encouraged to apply

Responsibilities

  • Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks.
  • Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
  • Troubleshooting support for operational fleet and new construction issues.
  • New unit procurement technical support and deliverable approvals.
  • Maintenance of technical ordering requirements, and component technical manuals.
  • Development of field change packages.
