About The Position

A Civil Engineer Intern with Houston Engineering Inc. (HEI) will spend time in the field working on outdoor construction phase activities as well as a variety of in-office projects assisting engineers. Structural engineering projects range from complex grade separation projects and large bridges spanning a river with architectural enhancements to box culverts for a rural township over a small ditch. We are seeking a Graduate Engineer to join our Structural team in our Fargo office. This role is intended for an individual with 0-3 years of prior experience in structural engineering. Structural engineering projects range from complex grade separation projects and large bridges spanning a river with architectural enhancements to box culverts for a rural township over a small ditch. The structural engineers have also designed a variety of hydraulic structures such as dams, floodwalls, gate wells, and some of the most complex lift stations in the region!

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
  • 0-3 years of experience in Civil Engineering
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, and clients.
  • Superior task management skills, including scheduling, prioritizing, following up, and keeping project information organized.
  • Superior problem solving and analytical skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or Civil 3D and ArcGIS is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with plan specifications and estimates as well as documenting construction activities.
  • Assist with AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings and update redlines with various project set drawings.
  • Operate electronic survey instruments such as GPS and Total Station.
  • Perform work in a variety of software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS, etc.
  • Potential observation and data collection at different types of project sites.
  • Assist with research, development and design of projects.
