About The Position

Moffatt & Nichol is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer with commercial diving certification and experience to perform structural inspections both above and below water. This role is part of the Baltimore, MD dive team, providing consulting services primarily in the Baltimore area, with infrequent overnight travel required. Occasional travel to other domestic and international waterfront destinations is also a possibility. The primary function involves evaluating marine structures and ports through engineering inspections, preparing reports, and developing structural repair designs. The position also includes performing high-level analysis and design, utilizing modern workflows such as field tablets, UAS (drones), nondestructive testing, marine mapping and imaging, and analysis/modeling tools. The company offers in-house training programs for commercial diving and professional rope access, along with numerous training and education opportunities for career development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) required
  • Certified Commercial Diver is required; ADCI, HSE, DCBC, IMCA, ADAS or completion of a US military equivalent diving school required
  • Entry level to 4+ years of related diving and inspection experience required
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing
  • Availability and willingness to travel as required.
  • Possession of or eligibility to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Selected candidate must consent to and pass a post-offer/pre-employment drug screening
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

  • Structural coursework or focus is preferred
  • Boater Safety Card preferred
  • Possess DBIDS card or eligibility to successfully pass background check to secure Department of Defense DBIDS card and other badges required by clients preferred
  • Current First Aid, CPR, AED, and Oxygen Administration certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs site investigations of marine structures, bridges, and other infrastructure assets
  • Ensures that the scope of work is fulfilled as directed and that the contracted deliverable is submitted out on schedule and as budgeted
  • Data entry/manipulation and technical writing skills for the preparation and review of inspection reports, proposals, etc.
  • Analyzes deteriorated components of marine and bridge structures to assess load capacity
  • Prepares plans, specifications, cost estimates and supporting documentation
  • Works collaboratively with all members of the inspection team and of other engineering disciplines
  • Assists with civil and structural design
  • Performs other duties as required
