About The Position

Moffatt & Nichol is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer with commercial diving certification and experience to perform structural inspections both above and below water. This role is part of the Baltimore, MD dive team, working with a professional engineering inspection team that provides consulting services primarily in the Baltimore area. Occasional overnight travel is required, with opportunities for domestic and international travel for those interested. The primary function is to evaluate marine structures and ports through engineering inspections, report preparation, and structural repair design development. The role also involves high-level analysis and design, utilizing modern workflows such as field tablets, UAS (drones), nondestructive testing and evaluation, marine mapping and imaging, and analysis and modeling tools. Inspections are performed for marine terminal operators, private clients, states, municipalities, and the US Navy. Moffatt & Nichol offers two mature in-house training programs for commercial diving and professional rope access (optional), along with numerous training and education opportunities for custom career development.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
Engineer in Training (EIT) required
Certified Commercial Diver is required; ADCI, HSE, DCBC, IMCA, ADAS or completion of a US military equivalent diving school required
Entry level to 4+ years of related diving and inspection experience required
Valid driver’s license in good standing
Availability and willingness to travel as required.
Possession of or eligibility to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Possess DBIDS card or eligibility to successfully pass background check to secure Department of Defense DBIDS card and other badges required by clients preferred
Current First Aid, CPR, AED, and Oxygen Administration certification preferred

Responsibilities

Performs site investigations of marine structures, bridges, and other infrastructure assets
Ensures that the scope of work is fulfilled as directed and that the contracted deliverable is submitted out on schedule and as budgeted
Data entry/manipulation and technical writing skills for the preparation and review of inspection reports, proposals, etc.
Analyzes deteriorated components of marine and bridge structures to assess load capacity
Prepares plans, specifications, cost estimates and supporting documentation
Works collaboratively with all members of the inspection team and of other engineering disciplines
Assists with civil and structural design
Performs other duties as required
