About The Position

This role provides process engineering support to the LaPorte Acetyls unit, which includes Acetic Acid and Vinyl Acetate Monomer (VAM) processes. The engineer supports operations and the day-to-day production engineering group, with an overall focus on long-term plant improvements. The position provides process support for mid-size and major capital projects while maintaining a strong focus on safety and environmental compliance. It is also responsible for long-range planning of improvements to the Acetyls unit, including potential future growth opportunities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.
• Typically a minimum of 8 years of prior engineering experience.
• Relevant experience in the refining, petrochemical, or chemical process industries.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with Acetyls (Acetic Acid, VAM), Acetic Anhydride, Ethylene Oxide, Acrylic Acid, Maleic Anhydride, Phthalic Anhydride, Oxo Alcohols, Methanol, or other catalytic chemical manufacturing technologies using fixed-bed multitubular reactors, carbonylation reactors, or complex catalyst-recycle systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide process engineering support to mid-size and major capital projects, including plant debottlenecking opportunities.
• Work with off-site engineering partners to develop solutions to gaps in the current system, including engineering studies, relief system evaluations, and PHA/SIS evaluations.
• Develop recommendations to improve and optimize overall plant performance.
• Develop systems to improve and sustain value in safety, environment, production, reliability, cost, and quality.
• Maintain a strong safety and environmental compliance focus.
• Contribute to a team environment and establish working relationships with on-site and off-site functional groups to achieve results.
• Balance day-to-day operational priorities with long-term strategic objectives to align with company and site goals.
• Coach less experienced engineers and provide technical guidance on process systems.
• Plan long-range improvements to the Acetyls unit, including potential future growth opportunities.
