About The Position

Researches, develops, designs, and tests components, equipment and systems. Designs equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes. This role requires applying extensive technical expertise and full knowledge of all engineering disciplines. The engineer will be expected to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings. They will develop technical solutions to complex problems requiring ingenuity and creativity, and work with minimal supervision, exercising considerable latitude in determining technical objectives. The role impacts major programs and may involve project leadership, where errors could lead to failure in achieving organizational objectives. The engineer will also serve as the primary technical contact on contracts and projects, interacting with senior external personnel on significant technical matters.

Requirements

  • 5 Years with Bachelor of Science Degree in engineering
  • 3 years of relevant professional experience with a Master's Degree
  • 0 years of relevant professional experience with a PhD

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledgeable of understanding Foundations and O&F designs.
  • Knowledgeable of understanding HVAC and pipe designs.
  • Ability to travel to a different state for up to three months at a time as needed
  • Working knowledge of planning yard processes.
  • Experience with ship modernization, availability, process and procedure.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Engineering experience and knowledge of systems for CG47, LCS, LPD17, LHA and LHD ship classes preferred.
  • Prior experience in support of waterfront production efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Designs equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
  • Applies extensive technical expertise, and has full knowledge of all disciplines.
  • Communicates effectively and clearly presents technical approaches and findings.
  • Develops technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.
  • Works without appreciable direction and exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment.
  • Guides the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project leadership role.
  • Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects.
  • Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Provide technical liaison between the Planning Yard, Naval Supervising Activity (NSA), and Program Management Representative (PMR).
  • Provide interpretation of design products and assistance in resolving technical problems.
  • Support the local NSA and PMR during availability work periods with modernization and repair assistance.
  • Provide assistance in response to Condition Found Reports.
  • Represent the Planning Yard at daily and weekly production reviews.
  • Support modernization and repair efforts.
