About The Position

At the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), we plan, build, maintain, and protect the transportation systems that connect communities, support commerce, and keep Louisiana moving. DOTD is seeking an experienced Engineer 3, 4, or 5 to support transportation projects and programs through bridge and structural design, bridge preservation, load rating, plan development, and technical support for transportation infrastructure projects. This position supports the development, delivery, maintenance, or improvement of transportation infrastructure by applying engineering principles, conducting technical analysis, coordinating projects, and conducting compliance-related reviews. No prior licensed engineering experience is required — training is provided, with opportunities for career progression and advancement through the Engineering job series. Positions are located Statewide, and report to Engineer 7/ Bridge Inspection Engineer.

Requirements

• Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering.
• Applications will be accepted from persons who possess a current Engineer Intern Certificate in states other than Louisiana. However, the applicant will be required to obtain a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate prior to appointment.
• The hiring agency will verify that all requirements are met.
• Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificates are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board.

Responsibilities

• Assists with bridge and structural design activities for transportation infrastructure projects.
• Reviews or prepares plans, calculations, specifications, estimates, and structural details.
• Performs or assists with bridge load ratings, structural evaluations, or bridge preservation activities.
• Provides technical support related to bridge rehabilitation, replacement, preservation, or new capacity projects.
• Coordinates with project managers, consultants, districts, construction staff, and other internal or external partners.
