About The Position

Nordstrom is seeking an Engineer 1 to join its POS+ full-stack engineering team, which builds and supports in-store selling tools used across more than 350 locations. The team develops fast, secure, modern point-of-sale experiences on a scalable platform with a React front end and Java/Spring Boot backend, hosted in AWS and integrated with store hardware and cloud-native services. The role contributes to critical in-store workflows and offers mentorship from senior engineers.

Requirements

A foundation in computer science principles demonstrated through a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Some hands-on coding experience with React, Java, and JavaScript through internships, academic projects, or personal development.
A strong desire to learn full-stack development and work across front-end, backend, and cloud services.
Interest in building real-world software that directly impacts store teams and customers.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with modern front-end development frameworks and workflows, including React and Redux.

Responsibilities

Build, test, and support stable, maintainable, and secure web applications and APIs.
Write clean, well-documented code using React and Java and follow engineering best practices.
Contribute to unit, integration, and end-to-end test automation.
Learn and apply cloud-native development patterns, including AWS, containers, and CI/CD pipelines.
Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and collaborative development with other engineers.
Investigate and troubleshoot issues, optimize system performance, and support store operations when needed.
Rotate through on-call responsibilities to support production.
