About The Position

The Engineering Test Technician supports the design engineering team with product development activities, including soldering, testing, programming devices, and assembling devices. Products include thermostats, smoke, carbon monoxide, heat, and gas detectors, and strobes. The technician performs product test and validation support for engineering projects under established test procedures, product specifications, and safety guidelines. The role involves setting up tests, preparing and assembling prototypes, soldering components, programming devices, collecting test data, reviewing results, documenting discrepancies, and communicating findings to engineers. The technician works under general supervision, resolves routine issues independently, and escalates unusual conditions or concerns outside the role's scope as needed.

Requirements

  • Experience in electrical, electronics, or electromechanical testing, technician support, or a related technical role.
  • Experience supporting product testing, prototype assembly, device programming, or test setup using established procedures.
  • Working knowledge of common test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and environmental test equipment.
  • Ability to document test results clearly using standard office tools and communicate findings to engineers and team members.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures, work instructions, and established testing methods with general supervision.
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds and climb ladders when necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with product design validation testing for devices such as thermostats, detectors, or other electronic products.
  • Experience with soldering, microscope use, prototype rework, and basic circuit trace modification.
  • Familiarity with schematics, line-voltage testing, RF product testing, and lightning, surge, or transient test methods.
  • Experience using Office 365, JIRA, or similar product development tracking systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform product validation and testing according to established procedures, product specifications, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Set up test equipment and fixtures using wiring diagrams, approved materials, and established methods for routine validation work.
  • Support design engineering through soldering, assembly, device programming, and prototype modifications for testing.
  • Operate standard test tools and equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, environmental chambers, and related hand tools.
  • Record test results, prepare test reports, and document discrepancies for review by design engineering and product quality personnel.
  • Analyze routine test variances within established guidelines and recommend follow-up actions based on observed results.
  • Follow Resideo safety requirements and stop-work expectations when unsafe conditions or actions are identified.
  • Manage assigned testing tasks independently, balance daily priorities, and escalate conflicting priorities or unusual issues when needed.
  • Support project development activities such as testing, device programming, soldering, and device assembly.

Benefits

  • Full life-cycle involvement from requirements gathering to production of products that keep families, communities, and homes safe and secure.
  • Gain experience with 3-D printing to create prototypes that impact the future of Resideo products.
