About The Position

The Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office is recruiting for multiple part-time Enforcement Reserve Deputy positions and is creating an eligibility list for rotating shifts. Enforcement Reserve Deputies work a minimum of 20 hours per month with other law enforcement personnel in the protection of life and property as guided by federal, state, and local laws and ordinances. Enforcement Reserve Deputies supplement and assist regular sworn deputies in their duties and therefore work varied 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts in support of regular shifts, special events, holidays, and weekends. They may work in various special assignments as required. Reserve Deputies working in regular assignments (e.g., Rural patrol, Contract City patrol, etc.) are unpaid (volunteer) sworn positions. Reserve Deputies working in grant-funded assignments (e.g., Marine, Woods, special events, etc.) are paid (hourly) sworn positions. This position is not represented and is non-benefitted.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age by conclusion of reserve academy (June 2027).
  • A high school diploma/GED is required.
  • United States citizenship or have the ability to obtain citizenship within one (1) year of hire.
  • An unrestricted state-issued driver’s license with the ability to obtain an Oregon driver’s license.
  • A good driving record.
  • A satisfactory work record and personal history (e.g., free of criminal convictions, although special circumstances may be considered).
  • Employees authorized to operate a private vehicle on County business are required to carry a valid driver’s license and liability insurance minimums as outlined in ORS 806.070.
  • Will be subject to successful completion of a personal background check including, but not limited to, criminal, civil, driving, military, educational, and employment history pursuant to OAR 259-008-0015.
  • Applicants will be required to pass a medical exam and/or psychological evaluation prior to appointment in order to meet standard under OAR 259-008-0010.
  • Commitment of a minimum of 20 hours of scheduled duty service per month.
  • ORPAT physical ability test results, dated within the previous 12 months, submitted by the closing date (3:00 PM on 10/22/2026). Passing scores are 6:20 or under, including the Push/Pull component and with a "Pass" on the Dummy Drag.
  • NTN Frontline A scores.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional preference may be given to those applicants that are fluent in English and Spanish.
  • Certified applicants must possess a minimum of 24 months of certified law enforcement service (volunteer, part-time, or full-time) within the last three (3) years and be in good standing with the current / prior law enforcement agency(s) to waive NTN Frontline A and ORPAT exam requirements.
  • Retired Oregon law enforcement or who have successfully completed an approved Reserve Training Academy with another agency in Oregon may have the Reserve Training Academy requirement waived.

  • Yamhill County will reimburse the cost of ORPAT testing for candidates hired under this recruitment. Dated receipt is required for reimbursement.
