This is a professional position investigating and enforcing domestic support agreements. An employee in this class locates and arrests individuals delinquent in payment of support or for failure to appear as directed the Court. Locating difficult-to-find offenders using various police investigatory techniques is an important part of this work. Arrests may require surveillance during night and weekend hours, use of force and restraint, and exposure to dangerous situations. Employees may be required to arrange for assistance from other police departments as required. Follow-up work on arrests includes preparation of reports on the disposition of defendants and appearances in Court to verify conditions of arrest. Employees are also assigned counseling duties with difficult or uncooperative clients, to attempt to bring about satisfactory payment arrangements, short of requiring arrest. Employees also supervise and counsel persons placed on probation as a result of failure to adhere to support agreements.
