About The Position

Under general supervision, directs, supervises, coordinates, and performs the law enforcement functions of the Wilson County ABC Board in accordance with the authority delegated by federal, state, and local laws as well as the policies set forth by the Wilson County ABC Board. Prepares and maintains detailed, complex, and/or confidential records and files; prepares reports; assists the public; and does related work as required.

Requirements

Must be a citizen of the United States
Must be at least 21 years of age and in good physical and mental condition.
Must be at least a high school graduate or equivalent.
Must be a certified law enforcement officer through the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission with a minimum of General Certification.
Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License and have no record of a criminal offense.
Minimum of five years law enforcement experience.
Must be, or become, knowledgeable with the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Laws (Chapter 18B), as well as North Carolina Administrative codes (Chapter 15).
Must familiarize themselves with federal, state, and local laws applicable to the nature of this work.
Must be willing to work irregular hours including some nights, weekends, holidays, and non-scheduled times.

Prior law enforcement supervisory experience is desired.

Responsibilities

Enforces general laws as well as North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Laws and North Carolina Administrative codes.
Responsible for all law enforcement matters for the Wilson County ABC Board.
Acts as the official representative of the Wilson County ABC Enforcement and shall recommend policy and procedure changes for law enforcement matters.
Manages work schedules and correlates activities/investigations with other law enforcement agencies as needed.
Oversee the acquisition and maintenance of all law enforcement equipment, vehicles, and/or weapons to include repair of said equipment and property.
Coordinate and schedules special security coverage through local law enforcement agencies as needed.
Assists Wilson County ABC Board management in the investigation of any possible improper and/or illegal activities by any ABC employees.
Provides education, guidance, and compliance assistance to current and prospective ABC permittees.
Conducts random, unannounced inspections of all mixed beverage permitted locations in Wilson County at a minimum of twice a year.
Conducts random, unannounced inspections of any other ABC permitted business or event in Wilson County as needed.
Exercises discretion by utilizing education, verbal counseling, or written warnings when appropriate before pursuing formal enforcement action, when consistent with law and public safety.
Performs random security checks of all Wilson County ABC facilities on a frequent basis.
Conducts responsible alcohol sales classes as needed or requested.
Conducts underaged alcohol sales operations to ensure compliance with North Carolina ABC laws.
Responds to public complaints concerning ABC permitted locations.
Performs general law enforcement duties such as, but not limited to, criminal investigations, securing and storing evidence, arresting suspects, reporting, testifying in court, etc.
Complete and submit the North Carolina ABC Commission Law Enforcement Report as required by law.
Present the Enforcement Report to the Wilson County ABC Board at their monthly meetings.
Ensure ABC violation reports are completed and submitted to the NCABC Commission in a timely manner.
Conduct Local Government Opinions as necessary for new establishments seeking ABC permits.
Regularly updates the General Manager regarding all significant enforcement activities, investigations, and operational issues.
Perform other duties as required by law, the Board, the General Manager, or the Assistant General Manager.
