About The Position

Through an internship with CHS, you’ll contribute to meaningful projects that support agriculture, strengthen communities, and help advance a global business. Our paid internship program offers an opportunity to build practical skills, grow your leadership capabilities, and see how your ideas can make an impact. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals and connect with mentors, industry experts and senior leaders, while gaining career insights, building relationships and exploring how CHS businesses work together to empower agriculture. CHS is seeking an Energy Sales Intern in Mitchell, SD for Summer 2027. This internship provides a valuable opportunity to gain insight into our successful energy team, with a focus on the Certified Energy Specialist roles. You will work closely with our customers, ensuring they receive top-notch service and information. We are looking for individuals who are detail-oriented and possess strong communication skills. The internship can start as early as Spring 2027, depending on business needs and your availability, and extend through the summer.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an energy, agriculture, or related field.
  • Proficient with Microsoft office products.

Nice To Haves

  • Agriculture/energy experience or background knowledge very helpful.
  • Previous internship experience.

Responsibilities

  • Shadow the Certified Energy Specialist (CES)
  • Learn about increasing sales/profitability for the cooperative through implementation of sales, marketing, and consulting processes for CENEX products and cooperative services
  • Train on how to build and maintain positive working relationships with customers/potential customers
  • Learn about CHS energy programs including our Cenex Brand
  • Attend sales calls and in person meetings for commercial business alongside the Certified Energy Specialist
  • Spend time with energy service team in the field to learn what their job entails and gain better overall understanding of industry and how the team works together
  • Spend time with propane route driver on a ride along to learn how their job coordinates with the service team and the Certified Energy Specialist team
  • Spend time with the Energy Manager to see how the overall energy operation is managed to operate safety, productively, and efficiently
  • Other duties as assigned
