About The Position

The Energy Rater is responsible for conducting residential energy inspections, diagnostic testing, and field evaluations in accordance with RESNET standards, company procedures, and applicable energy codes. Duties include collecting and documenting inspection data, performing diagnostic testing, preparing reports, and communicating findings to builders, contractors, and internal team members. This is a field-based position serving residential construction sites and homes throughout the Charlottesville, Richmond, and Hampton Roads, Virginia areas. The position requires regular travel between job sites during the work week. A company vehicle and gas card are provided for business-related travel. Employees should be comfortable traveling throughout the assigned service area and working at a variety of residential construction sites and homes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • RESNET HERS Certification required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with builders, contractors, and team members.
  • Ability to work independently while following established procedures, standards, and job requirements.
  • Ability to apply technical information, testing procedures, and applicable standards.
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and other required software.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in residential energy rating, building science, construction, HVAC, or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct residential energy inspections in accordance with RESNET standards and company procedures.
  • Perform diagnostic testing, including blower door, duct leakage, and HVAC airflow testing.
  • Prepare detailed reports documenting inspection findings.
  • Communicate professionally with builders, contractors, and team members.
  • Maintain inspection tools, testing equipment, and required documentation.
  • Follow all required safety rules, procedures, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Use Microsoft Word, Excel, and other software as required.
  • Identify and resolve problems effectively while maintaining strong organization and attention to detail.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
