As an Energy Project Manager, you will be a key member of CASR’s Climate Capital Projects team, reporting to the Senior Energy Project Manager in the Buildings or Vehicle Electrification group. You will be a highly motivated and innovative individual with the ability to effectively manage Denver's distributed energy resources, EV supply equipment, and implement energy efficiency and decarbonization initiatives across multiple agencies and facility management teams.
The Climate Capital Project team works on exciting and important decarbonization projects including:
Innovative battery energy storage and microgrids to improve energy resilience and reduce municipal energy costs
Dramatically increasing level 2 and level 3 EV charging capacity in the city to enable electrification of the Denver’s 3,000+ vehicle fleet and foster widespread EV adoption
Energy conservation and HVAC electrification across more than 160 facilities
Demonstrating the potential for geothermal, sewer heat recovery, and district thermal energy networks to meet Denver's decarbonization goals.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Project Management, Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture or a related field.
• Two (2) years of professional project management experience in the related occupational group including coordinating, administering, and monitoring projects.
• One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
• Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
• A valid Driver’s License at the time of application.

Nice To Haves

• Implementing climate mitigation (energy, buildings, transportation) capital projects and asset management at the local government level; specific experience with on-site distributed energy resources, facilities electrification, energy efficiency, complex EV charging, district energy, or geothermal projects is a plus.
• Developing a project plan, defining project goals and objectives, specifying tasks, determining how goals will be achieved and what resources are needed, and associating budgets and timelines for completion.
• Risk management and mitigation including assessment of failures and their consequences.
• Building consensus, support and engagement with internal and external partners.
• An understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on under-resourced communities.
• Willingness to grow professionally and technically, innovate, analyze, and change processes or procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present to diverse audiences.
• Results-oriented, self-driven to contribute to a high performing team.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, be responsible for distributed energy resources, electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), energy efficiency, and HVAC electrification projects that involve coordination with a number of external and internal organizations. Projects will have a city-wide impact and require a strategic understanding of city agencies and city policies, standards, and systems.
• Review technical specifications, drawings, and submittals for conformity to project goals and requirements.
• Inspect in-progress and finished work in the field to ensure projects are completed to the defined specifications.
• Coordinate and direct the work of consultants and related personnel who have been assigned responsibility for various projects and/or portions of a project.
• Interact with utility companies, city agencies/departments, and other governmental agencies to identify, understand, and direct contractors to obtain necessary permits and clearances and to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Provide required contract management tasks, including holding contractors accountable to all provisions within their contract, as well as managing and processing requests for information, change order requests, invoices, and other project administration.
• Coordinate with CASR and other City agencies to execute Denver’s solar and EVSE asset management contracts and operations & maintenance programs as assigned. Provide support to host facilities and agencies as needed to resolve issues quickly and cost-effectively.
• Leverage external resources including utility rebates, grants, and partnerships to advance CASR’s objectives.
• Provide cross-cutting support within CASR, for other City agencies and facility managers, and with CASR’s Capital Projects and Municipal Energy Performance team to advance CASR’s climate goals.
• Communicate with representatives of various city agencies, community and business groups, Xcel Energy, the public, and other stakeholders in a professional and clear manner.
