Requirements

  • Experience interpreting, using, applying energy codes (Denver Energy Code, IECC, Colorado Model Low Energy and Carbon Code), as well as other building and energy related codes and standards (IRC, ACCA, RESNET, etc.)
  • In-depth understanding of energy sources and how buildings use energy
  • Experience with high performance residential HVAC design, design process, and project delivery
  • Experience with energy modeling software to demonstrate compliance with IECC / HERS / Energy Star
  • Ability to work effectively across teams and disciplines to establish and meet common goals
  • Three years of direct design and project delivery or plan review experience
  • Field experience as an inspector, HERS Rater, and / or energy auditor
  • Residential HVAC or mechanical design experience
  • Additional certifications for building energy use and simulation
  • Genuine passion for supporting teams and customers to help them succeed; commitment to high‑quality outcomes and a collaborative, service‑oriented approach
  • Ability to see the big picture of compliance and prioritize the most important areas; Strong intuition and judgment to guide projects toward successful outcomes
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills; Thrives in a fast‑paced environment and adapts quickly to changing priorities
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field as required by the specific opening
  • Five (5) years’ experience performing full performance professional level duties within a specialized, functional area. (This does not include clerical experience.)
  • Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application
  • One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post high school education
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Certification for building energy use and simulation such as HERS Rater / IECC/HERS Compliance Specialist / ACCA Residential HVAC Design for Quality Installation, or related certification (strongly preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and ensuring energy code design compliance for residential buildings in accordance with Denver’s amended energy codes
  • Providing excellent customer service that helps external customers understand and apply energy code requirements
  • Working with colleagues to update codes and resources
  • Collaborating across multiple trades, disciplines, and City agencies
  • Participating in development and implementation of energy code training programs
  • Working with inspectors and contractors
  • Other related duties as assigned
