Energy Marshal

Sheakley Workforce Staffing•Ironton, OH

About The Position

The Energy Marshal provides field-level oversight and authority for electrical energization activities, ensuring systems are safe, complete, and ready before electrical energy is introduced. The role conducts energization readiness reviews and approves or rejects energization requests within delegated authority based on documented project and electrical safety requirements. It includes technical reviews of Methods of Procedure (MOPs), verification of LOTO and electrical isolation readiness, deficiency tracking, and documentation of Go/No-Go decisions. The Energy Marshal coordinates with commissioning, construction, electrical, QA/Cx, owner, and field leadership teams while maintaining independent authority to stop or reject unsafe energization activities. The position supports disciplined turnover and commissioning of electrical systems from construction through energization.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of electrical construction, electrical operations, commissioning, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of LV and MV electrical distribution systems, including switchgear, transformers, protective devices, UPS systems, generators, and associated distribution equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing and coordinating electrical switching, energization, and de-energization activities.
  • Proficiency reading and interpreting electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, equipment submittals, and operational sequences.
  • Experience developing, reviewing, and executing electrical MOPs and associated switching plans.
  • Strong understanding of NFPA 70E, OSHA electrical safety requirements, arc-flash hazards, shock protection boundaries, and electrical safe work conditions.
  • Experience overseeing electrical energy isolation, LOTO plans, stored energy control, absence-of-voltage verification, and grounding requirements.
  • Ability to evaluate energization prerequisites, including equipment inspections, testing, open deficiencies, personnel readiness, and system configuration.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently stop or reject unsafe work without influence from construction schedules or production pressure.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with commissioning agents, general contractors, owners, electricians, QA/Cx personnel, and field leadership.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Energy Marshal or equivalent authority experience on a hyperscale data center project.
  • MV switching and grounding experience with documented task-specific qualifications.
  • Experience with NETA acceptance testing, electrical commissioning milestones, and equipment turnover.
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Cx Alloy, Procore, or similar digital permit and approval workflows.
  • Documented electrical safety training aligned with NFPA 70E.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct electrical energization readiness reviews and evaluate requests for approval or rejection.
  • Perform technical reviews of MOPs, switching plans, system configurations, and supporting documentation.
  • Verify LOTO readiness, electrical isolation, stored energy controls, absence-of-voltage requirements, and grounding provisions.
  • Confirm required inspections, testing, commissioning activities, personnel readiness, and prerequisite work are complete before energization.
  • Identify, document, and track deficiencies that could prevent safe energization.
  • Issue and document Go/No-Go decisions within delegated authority.
  • Coordinate planned switching, energization, and de-energization activities with project stakeholders.
  • Review electrical one-lines, schematics, equipment submittals, and operational sequences.
  • Maintain independent electrical safety authority and stop or reject work when conditions do not support safe execution.
  • Support disciplined turnover and commissioning of electrical systems from construction through energization.
