About The Position

The Energy Management Systems (EMS) Installation Technician is responsible for installing, programming, testing, calibrating, operating, and repairing control systems, as well as the related software, hardware, and equipment, to ensure they are operating properly and safely. The EMS Installation Technician must have the ability to follow and give instructions, demonstrate a strong concern for safety, and adhere to all company policies while promoting them to others. This role must be self-motivated, a team player, have a positive attitude, strong problem-solving skills, a proven attendance record, and a keen mechanical aptitude.

  • Must not exceed ladder ratings, ensuring safe use according to manufacturer guidelines
  • Capable of handling and maneuvering heavy equipment, tools, and materials during installations and repairs
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, and position equipment such as control panels, wiring, and components in various job site environments
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks that require bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting in confined spaces
  • Excessive pulling, kneeling, and squatting
  • Must be able to climb ladders multiple times
  • Must be able to drive for extended hours which could require up to 8-10 hours of driving time or more
  • Must be able to operate a telephone, iPad, and company cell phone
  • Must be able to alternate between sitting and standing, as needed throughout the day
  • Continuously requires vision, hearing, twisting, and talking
  • Continuously requires walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, kneeling, pushing/pulling, bending, and crouching
  • Must be able to follow all safety protocols and procedures on jobs sites
  • Must be able to work on rooftops
  • Must be able to work in both outdoor and indoor temperature environments, adapting to varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) and temperature extremes in unheated or non-air-conditioned spaces

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree in a related field (e.g., Electrical Engineering, HVAC Technology, Automation)
  • 4+ years of related commercial experience
  • State Licensed in low voltage (if required by state)
  • Familiarity with current NEC and local codes
  • Experience installing electrical systems in commercial environments; control systems experience preferred
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot equipment effectively

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs control systems and equipment
  • Calibrates machine controllers and automation equipment
  • Monitors machine readings to ensure factors such as temperature and pressure remain within acceptable ranges
  • Installs control systems, including HVAC and refrigeration control systems
  • Reads blueprints and wiring schematics, and interprets drawings and specifications
  • Maintains a workflow schedule to ensure productivity objectives are met
  • Tests control systems and related equipment
  • Attends required safety training, follows all safety standards, and ensures safety is paramount on all job sites
  • Communicates orally and in written reports to crew leaders, supervisors, operations, and other craft personnel
  • The majority of work requires out-of-town travel, leaving Monday and returning Friday
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Completes assigned tasks in a safe, accurate, thorough, and alert manner
  • Upholds Company policies and procedures
  • Works in a professional manner with managers, supervisors, coworkers, customers, and the public
  • Other related job duties as assigned
