About The Position

As an Energy Equity Intern, you will work alongside KC3 staff on projects and programs that help residents, building owners, community organizations, and workforce development partners access clean energy resources and opportunities. KC3 is a M/WBE B Corp-certified consulting firm that partners with utilities, government agencies, affordable housing organizations, and community-based organizations to expand access to clean energy programs in underserved communities. We believe that promoting climate resilience means meeting communities where they are and finding solutions that work for them. We partner with local governments, the private sector, and nonprofit institutions to expand access to energy efficiency and decarbonization programs, support affordable housing preservation, strengthen workforce development pathways, and advance equitable access to the clean energy transition. KC3 is looking to hire multiple Energy Equity Interns for the 2026-2027 academic year. Interns are embedded within active client projects and gain hands-on experience supporting community engagement, clean energy program implementation, data analysis, stakeholder engagement, workforce development initiatives, research, reporting, and strategic planning activities. Interns are paired with a Program Manager and work closely with Outreach Analysts, Sustainability Analysts, Sustainability Consultants, and other subject matter experts throughout the organization. This internship is designed to provide meaningful exposure to careers in sustainability, affordable housing, climate policy, workforce development, community engagement, and clean energy program implementation. Interns should be comfortable working remotely with periodic in-person meetings, events, trainings, and project activities throughout New York City. This is a part-time position expected to average approximately 20 hours per week.

Requirements

Currently pursuing or recently completed an undergraduate degree in sustainability, environmental studies, public policy, urban planning, community development, sociology, economics, political science, engineering, data analytics, communications, or a related field.
Local to the New York City metropolitan area and able to attend occasional in-person meetings, events, and activities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
Commitment to racial equity, housing justice, economic mobility, environmental justice, and community-centered approaches to problem solving.

Responsibilities

Conduct research and data analysis related to clean energy, decarbonization, affordable housing, workforce development, community engagement, and environmental justice initiatives.
Gather, organize, and synthesize data and information into reports, presentations, resource materials, and other project deliverables.
Support project teams with research on buildings, organizations, community stakeholders, programs, policies, and funding opportunities.
Support outreach, stakeholder engagement, and awareness-building activities that connect residents, building owners, and job seekers to clean energy opportunities.
Assist with the development of outreach materials, presentations, training resources, and other program materials.
Participate in community events, workshops, meetings, and partner engagement activities as appropriate.
Support project teams with a variety of implementation activities across active client projects and initiatives.
Collaborate with staff across multiple teams and disciplines to support project goals and deliverables.
Participate in mentorship, training, team meetings, and other professional development opportunities.
Contribute ideas, observations, and recommendations that support project and organizational learning.
