About The Position

City Science is seeking a Consultant level candidate to support the delivery of its consulting commissions within the Energy & Environment Team. The role requires a technical background (e.g., physical sciences or engineering) or an economics/finance background with experience in energy and low-carbon sectors. The position involves contributing to projects through research, report writing, analysis, and model production. Additionally, consultants are expected to handle non-technical tasks such as project management, bid writing, stakeholder engagement, and client relationship management. The company emphasizes collaboration, business objective achievement, and identifying future opportunities.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience, or a PhD
  • Degree qualified in a STEM subject, or degree qualified in economics/finance with experience of applying those skills to decarbonisation or sustainability projects and technologies
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding across the energy and environment sectors
  • Strong Excel skills and data visualisation capabilities
  • Independent problem solving and ability to develop structured approaches
  • Ability to efficiently produce high-quality reports and documents
  • Ability to communicate technical outputs to a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • A PhD, or Master’s degree in finance or a relevant technical discipline
  • Chartered status or working towards chartership
  • Completed project management qualifications (e.g. PRINCE2, APM)
  • Knowledge and experience of GIS and coding (e.g. Python)
  • Experience of working in a consultancy environment
  • Experience of one or more of: district heat networks, carbon accounting (particularly scope 3 emissions), energy system modelling, local area energy planning, or net zero financing

Responsibilities

  • Research, modelling, and analysis across a range of energy and net zero projects
  • Data analysis (in Excel predominantly)
  • Producing high quality reports and presentations for clients
  • Supporting business development and the winning of new work, including preparing proposals, identifying new opportunities and promoting our business
  • Providing quality assurance for projects and technical deliverables
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships
