About The Position

Northrop Grumman is seeking an Energetics Manufacturing Engineer – level 1 to work at its Elkton, Maryland facility. The Elkton facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems. This role provides manufacturing support to operations to meet quality, delivery, and cost requirements. The facility is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore, offering a location with charming small towns, parks, restaurants, and outdoor activities.

Requirements

  • Must have a Bachelors degree in STEM studies and 1 or more years of experience or a Masters degree with 0 or more years of experience.
  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Able to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide manufacturing support to operations to meet quality, delivery, and cost requirements.
  • Create, maintain and improve Process Control Documentation.
  • Establish manufacturing lines for new products and product upgrades.
  • Establish Lean process flow.
  • Capacity planning…. perform capacity studies/analysis.
  • Digital modeling/simulation when appropriate.
  • Define facility and equipment needs.
  • Work with facilities engineering to provide cost benefit analysis to support capital projects.
  • Establish equipment specifications.
  • Work with vendors for equipment run-off and installation.
  • Assist in establishing safety requirements for new facilities and equipment.
  • Establish Total Preventive Maintenance (TPM) requirements.
  • Provide start-up support and initial training to operations.
  • Establish required procedures.
  • Provide training to maintenance personnel as required.
  • Conduct continuous improvement activities.
  • Lean manufacturing implementation (PES).
  • Assist operations with 5-S programs.
  • Conduct Process FMEA’s.
  • Generate process maps, flow charts, value stream maps.
  • Establish standard work.
  • Conduct time studies/audits.
  • Monitor production touch labor costs and suggest/implement improvements to drive costs down.
  • Establish Key Characteristics for manufacturing/processing and ensure systems are in place to monitor/control them.
  • Analyze processes and equipment for process capabilities and causes of downtime.
  • Analyze yield and scrap rate data provided by Mission Assurance to improve processes.
  • Provide technical support for improvements.
  • Determine root cause and corrective actions for deficiencies.
  • Conduct process capabilities studies as required.
  • Continually monitor processes.
  • Generate and maintain Statistical Process Control (SPC) program for production programs.
  • Monitor actual production vs. plan.
  • Work with Safety to establish and adhere to safety requirements and support Hazard Analysis.
  • Work with product/tooling engineering to establish tooling requirements.
  • Assist in design of initial tooling and test equipment and with continuous tooling improvement.
  • Additive manufacturing design, development, and implementation where practical.
  • Assist operations and maintenance in troubleshooting and equipment repairs.
  • Assist in defining product count points for financial tracking.
