About The Position

This position is for a Materials & Process Engineering role in Tucson, AZ, focusing on energetic materials and ingredients. The qualified candidate will engage with suppliers to review data, solve engineering problems for single-use energetic devices, and perform day-to-day chemistry tasks in the laboratory. Responsibilities include assessing materials for specification conformance, conducting root cause failure analysis using instrumental analysis techniques, and supporting programs with analytical analysis of common materials problems. The role requires quick turnarounds on analysis, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks within schedule requirements, with a significant portion of time spent in the laboratory. Knowledge of energetic safety requirements and the ability to lift 22 lbs are necessary. Travel, potentially international, to supplier locations may be required.

Requirements

  • University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience
  • Experience with energetic materials specific analysis and testing, including safety evaluations
  • Experience in Analytical Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis, including Infrared Spectroscopy, Chromatography and Thermal Analysis (ie: FTIR, DSC, DMA, TGA, GCMS, HPLC, GPC, etc..)
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date
  • U.S. citizenship is required
  • Ability to obtain INTERIM U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date
  • Must be able to lift 22 lbs

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and with individuals

Responsibilities

  • Assess materials based on conformance to specifications or conducting root cause failure analysis, leveraging knowledge of instrumental analysis, including spectroscopy, chromatography and thermal analysis
  • Perform chemical analysis on various materials (adhesives, polymers, tapes, composites, metals, and various other production materials)
  • Review energetic material data, testing, processes, and obsolescence at energetic suppliers’ locations
  • Support programs with analytical analysis of common materials problems onsite
  • Manage and coordinate a wide variety of simultaneous tasks within set schedule requirements
  • Conduct energetic material specific analysis and testing, including safety evaluations
  • Troubleshoot analytical instrument problems, perform analysis and interpret data
  • Lead and complete large scale multi-disciplined scientific based projects including failure analysis investigations
  • Write concise technical reports summarizing analyses
