About The Position

The Endpoint Specialist provides support for endpoint devices to all County employees and partners, ensuring that computers, peripherals, and mobile technologies are operational for job functions. This role involves setting up and maintaining hardware and software, providing frontline support, documenting trouble tickets and issue resolutions, and working within time constraints for endpoint equipment and application rollouts. The specialist will also provide endpoint software system support to users and coordinate problem resolution as needed.

Requirements

  • College Diploma in Computer Programming-Systems Analysis/Design or related discipline, and/or related IT professional designations (e.g., Cisco, MCSE, CNA, CNE, A+).
  • Minimum of 3 years related professional work experience, preferably with additional general work experience.
  • Solid understanding of Windows Active Directory and Group Policy.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals, routing, VLAN, DHCP, OSI Model, etc.
  • Knowledge of client virtualization technologies (VMWare, ESXI, Hyper-V).
  • Related experience in MFA technologies support, Microsoft Configuration Manager, Windows desktop administration, Windows Active Directory, and/or basic network infrastructure preferred.
  • Experience working in Microsoft Azure an asset.
  • Experience deploying and supporting Office 365 an asset.
  • Related experience in using Mobile Device Management (MDM) technologies (Meraki, Intune).
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license and use of a vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Documenting trouble tickets, addressing issues, and following up on resolutions.
  • Providing scheduled weekend on-call support, password resets for phone and domain, intranet user setup, and phone administration for the admin building.
  • Performing Antivirus updates, spyware cleaning, security updates, and upgrades on desktops/laptops.
  • Documenting PCs and equipment, refreshing old equipment with new equipment, and preparing old equipment for disposal.
  • Setting up, repairing, replacing, and maintaining equipment including PCs, printers, monitors, scanners, and mobile devices.
  • Providing support for Ministry of Health equipment (e.g., water testing PCs) in coordination with the IT department, users, and supervisors.
  • Providing ISP support for Councillor County-supplied devices.
  • Tracking and maintaining a log of all issues (system and procedural) ensuring timely resolution in cooperation with system vendors and end users.
  • Performing equipment repair and preventative maintenance tasks and maintaining records.
  • Implementing, maintaining, and supporting prescribed end-user security controls in adherence to IT and SOC governance policies.
  • Monitoring client infrastructure performance and providing recommendations for technology upgrades and replacements.
  • Preparing technical reports, instruction manuals, and common problem resolution documentation.
  • Coordinating and refreshing all endpoint devices on a pre-programmed basis, including developing images, testing, deployment, training, and follow-up.
  • Informing the Corporate Manager, IT, and user supervisors/managers of project completion.
  • Coordinating with the Network Services Team to confirm server-side setup for network performance.
  • Working with Systems Analysts to ensure software compatibility on County endpoints and assisting with large project implementations.
  • Providing phone support onsite and offsite (traveling county-wide).
  • Performing password resets and phone unit repairs or replacements, coordinating with Network Engineers for external support.
  • Administering the administration building phone system, including user setup, voicemail, and security changes.
  • Communicating with external vendors regarding cellular and telephone system repairs.
  • Regularly communicating and liaising with user department staff regarding PC/LAN application performance, system enhancements, error fixes, and updates.
  • Coordinating Councillor agenda deployment, including developing training guides, testing application setup on laptops, setting up home networks, and training councillors.
  • Undertaking vendor training and providing/coordinating end-user training.
  • Ensuring all system/application documentation is relevant and up-to-date (hardcopy and online).
  • Coordinating and communicating system changes and/or updates with IT staff, particularly involving hardware and/or cabling.
  • Providing additional resource to system users as required or directed.
  • Assisting in system disaster/recovery and downtime planning with system end users.
  • Ensuring systems and data accessibility, security, confidentiality, and integrity at all times using anti-virus and related technologies.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of developing information technologies.
  • Maintaining equipment inventory logs, including asset tag records.
