About The Position

The Endoscopy Technician is responsible for ensuring instruments work properly, following aseptic techniques, and maintaining the availability of instruments and supplies. This role involves the correct use, care, and cleaning of instruments, supplies, and equipment, including high-level disinfection. The technician will assist physicians in the procedure room, address patient needs during admission to the endoscopy room, and provide comfort and reassurance while maintaining patient privacy and dignity. Responsibilities also include explaining procedures to patients, ensuring continuity of care through communication and documentation, performing competently in emergency situations, and potentially checking in patients if the receptionist is absent. The role requires maintaining accurate records for reprocessing equipment, participating in quality assurance projects, and adhering to regulatory and safety compliance standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED certification
  • Good communication skills
  • CPR certification
  • Strong ethical and moral character references
  • Cooperative work attitude toward co-employees, management, patients, visitors, and physicians

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and confirms that instruments work properly.
  • Follows principles of aseptic technique and prescribed procedure room procedures.
  • Maintains availability of instruments and supplies to avoid delays.
  • Correctly uses, cares for, and cleans instruments, supplies, and equipment, using high-level disinfectants per policy and according to Manufacturer’s Instructions.
  • Handles equipment and instruments correctly to provide appropriate availability and safety.
  • Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician.
  • Assists the physician in the procedure room according to established guidelines.
  • Addresses patient needs during admission to the endoscopy room, with attention to requirements specific to the outpatient setting.
  • Identifies the patient and correct procedure according to policy and procedure and communicates with all members of the medical team.
  • Provides comfort, reassurance to patient and maintains patient’s privacy and dignity.
  • Explains procedures and care to the patient.
  • Provides continuity of patient care by communicating with other perioperative care personnel and documenting records accordingly.
  • Performs with competence in emergency situations.
  • Ability to check in patients if receptionist is absent.
  • Performs specified functions to meet the requirements of each approved procedure.
  • Maintains up to date/accurate records for reprocessing equipment per regulatory guidelines.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement and Infection Prevention Committee projects.
