About The Position

The Endoscopy Technician serves as a member of the Ambulatory Surgery Center team, responding to patient needs, preparing and maintaining resources (e.g., equipment, instruments, supplies), and providing safe, quality health care services and/or assistance for non-surgical endoscopy procedures in accordance with their level of experience, education, policies, procedures, protocols, and standards. This role involves performing clinical care activities, caring for patients safely by assisting in clinical care services or engaging in administrative activities that enhance the coordination, preparation, and flow of the care experience. The technician is expected to know, understand, and incorporate basic or essential area of practice standards, use clear, effective, and respectful communication, and perform work in a safe, engaging, collaborative, and supportive manner. They are accountable for continuous self-development and supporting the growth of others, while maintaining a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws/regulations, Trinity Health Integrity & Compliance Program, and Code of Conduct.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • At least two (2) years endoscopy or ambulatory surgery experience
  • Meets requirements for applicable state(s) of engagement
  • Continuous compliance with Trinity Health’s Code of Conduct, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Ability to provide assistance in the event of an emergency.
  • Continuous performance of work that involves physical efforts (e.g., transporting, moving, positioning, and/or ambulating patients).
  • Continuous work indoors under temperature-controlled and well-lit conditions.
  • Frequent performance of manual dexterity activities and/or grasping/handling.
  • Frequent ability to read small print, hear sounds and voice/speech patterns, give/receive instructions and other verbal communications with some background noise.
  • Frequent ability to sit with the ability to vary/adjust physical position or activity.
  • Frequent use of upper and lower extremities, engaging in bending/stooping/reaching and pushing/pulling.
  • Frequent ability to stand/walk with the ability to vary/adjust physical position or activity.
  • Frequent lift a maximum of 30 pounds unassisted.
  • Occasional ability to follow tasks through to completion, understand and relate to complex ideas/concepts, remember multiple tasks and regimens over long periods of time, and work on concurrent tasks/projects.
  • Occasional ability to climb, kneel, crouch and/or operate foot controls.
  • Occasional use a computer/other technology.
  • Occasional exposure to conditions which may be considered unpleasant to sight, touch, sound, and/or smell.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes, odors, dusts, mists, and gases, biohazards/hazards (mechanical, electrical, burns, chemicals, radiation, sharp objects, etc.).
  • Occasional exposure to or subject to noise, infectious waste, diseases, and conditions.
  • Occasional exposure to interruptions, shifting priorities, and stressful situations.

  • Occasional encounter a clinical/patient facing/hands-on interactive work environment.
  • Occasional encounter worksites (e.g., patient homes) or travel to worksites that may have variable internal and external environmental conditions.
  • Occasional work outdoors with variable external environmental conditions.

  • Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor certification

Responsibilities

  • Performs clinical care activities (direct or indirect) for patients within the scope of practice laws and training received.
  • Cares for patients safely by assisting in clinical care services or engaging in administrative activities (e.g., maintaining records or supplies) that enhance or improve coordination, preparation, and flow of the care experience.
  • Accountable for equipment, supplies, room set up, and assisting in running equipment during procedures.
  • Provides patient care to patients as directed by the Director of Nursing / Medical Director / Quality Committee(s).
  • Assists in patient intake, transport, placement of monitoring devices, and sample collection/preparation.
  • Establishes and maintains a safe and clean procedural room suite and sterile field.
  • Adheres to high-level disinfecting standards for reprocessing endoscopes and follows manufacturer’s guidelines.
  • Sterilizes equipment after procedures and ensures equipment is maintained in ready working order.
  • Performs quality testing and assists and/or ensures documentation and detailed records are kept, and hand-off reports are accurate, concise, and pertinent.
  • Distributes information regarding equipment or instruments at in-service/training sessions.
  • Performs essential duties and techniques appropriate to role/function/procedure.
  • Participates in quality improvement processes and continuous surveillance, rounding, or monitoring for safety.
  • May serve as a resource (lead), role model, and/or mentor.
