About The Position

NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn is a full-service teaching hospital and Level I trauma center located in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or the equivalent.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions and do basic mathematical calculations.
  • Knowledge of specific health care products, patient care equipment, instruments, medical terminology and basic use is required.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) by Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA), OR Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER), or Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER).
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring all instruments (e.g., exchange carts, par level carts, instrument sets and single peel packs) and emergency supplies meet established quotas, both qualitatively and quantitatively.
  • Delivering instruments to the surgical suites in a timely manner.
  • Decontaminating, disinfecting, testing, adjusting, assembling and transporting mobile patient equipment.
  • Decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, prepping and packing and sterilizing designated surgical instrumentation.
  • Conducting inventories (e.g., orders and stocks medical disposable goods in storage areas and ensures sterile processing of all materials.
  • Answering telephone; responding to requests from internal and external customers and actively participates in a continuous quality improvement process.
  • Demonstrates Universal Precautions in the exposure & handling of hazardous waste
  • Ensures that all scopes are secured and stored in a safe manner.
  • Reports, trouble shoots and/or implements corrective actions related to malfunctioning equipment & endoscopes promptly.
  • Rotates stock and monitors expiration dates.
  • Maintains utility room and work areas clean, neat and free of safety hazards.
  • Ensures that Endoscopes have been reprocessed as per OR policy and procedure prior to patient use.
  • Position, lift and hold patients in a safe and therapeutic manner.
  • Practices aseptic technique with transport and handling of sterilized items.
  • Collaborates with unit manager or charge nurse in determining priorities.
  • Accurate and thorough "Picking of Cases" or "Table Setup" that is case specific and/or as indicated by surgical preference card.
  • Prepares table setups that are well organized, neatly arranged and fully equipped for intra-op use and post-op decontamination.
  • Performs all the requirements of the Universal Protocol and Time Out in accordance with hospital policy
  • Performs proper specimen handling according to policy
  • Perform other duties as assigned
