About The Position

This Per Diem Endoscopy Technician II position is located in the Endoscopy Suite at Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center, NJ. The role involves providing assistance to physicians and nurses during procedures, cleaning and high-level disinfection of equipment, preparing procedure rooms, testing and troubleshooting equipment, organizing time effectively, pursuing professional growth, and ensuring safety in the patient care environment.

Requirements

  • Maintains BCLS Credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with all types of procedures utilizing equipment, scope accessories, and therapeutic interventions.
  • Assists with obtaining and performing biopsy specimens and polyps as directed by the physician.
  • Maintains sterile field and adheres to surgical standards.
  • Maintains and assists with appropriate rail positions, positioning and airway care.
  • Recognizes and reports changes in patient status to RN or charge nurse.
  • Operates and maintains Endoscopic washers in accordance with infection control standards, scope manufacturers, and disinfectant guidelines.
  • Documents consistently in scope diary, all the necessary data required to track and trend the pathway of an Endoscope from patient procedure through to completion of high-level disinfection.
  • Aids in the disposition and monitoring of scope repairs as well as other electronic equipment.
  • Makes recommendations regarding new equipment.
  • Verifies patient name and procedure type.
  • Observes universal protocol.
  • Prepares patient for exam, while providing emotional support for patient and family.
  • Sets patient up on physiologic monitoring.
  • Maintains patient privacy.
  • Introduces self as a member of the healthcare team.
  • Supports external customers i.e.: pediatric day hospital, operating room, and lab.
  • Possesses knowledge of oxygen, suction and the appropriate hardware used during procedures.
  • Able to assist nurse and demonstrates how to assist at emergency procedures.
  • Restocks rooms daily and assists with restocking of bulk storage areas.
  • Prepares room for procedures by maintaining, cleaning and disinfecting all surfaces.
  • Demonstrates excellent knowledge of scopes, equipment and systems (Olympus, Pentax, EUS, Erbe, heater probe, cautery, Motility and PH monitoring, Capsule, Endoscopic washers).
  • Expert in use of systems with scopes, processors, monitors, snares, biopsy forceps and cautery.
  • Assist physicians with all types of procedures utilizing universal precautions.
  • Turns over procedure rooms prior to next case.
  • Voluntarily seeks out duties on own.
  • Accepts additional assignments.
  • Observes all departmental policies and procedures.
  • Practice and utilize the Standards of Performance set forth by AHS.
  • Initiates work, anticipates the need to help others and offers productive solutions to problems.

  • Maintains all equipment as per policy and procedure and recognizes and reports any hazardous situation to supervisor.
