The Endoscopy Technician 1 plays a crucial role in supporting patient continuum of care and ensuring safe patient care within the Gastrointestinal Services department. This role involves patient transport, assisting with basic patient care and positioning during procedures, ensuring patient safety during electrocautery, proper handling of lab specimens, and assisting registered nurses with procedures. The technician is also responsible for setting up rooms and equipment, communicating pertinent information to the healthcare team, and assisting with pre and post-procedure care. A significant part of the role includes cleaning and decontaminating endoscopes according to SGNA standards, performing high-level disinfection, and validating equipment testing and repairs. Inventory maintenance and other unit duties as assigned are also part of the responsibilities. The position requires the ability to work with exposures to body fluids, waste, chemicals, radiation, hazardous materials, and life-threatening diseases, and involves on-call responsibilities, rotating shifts, and the ability to respond to emergencies and codes. The role also requires the ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds frequently and/or in excess of 20 pounds constantly, with specific lifting requirements for patient care up to 35 pounds without assistance. The position recognizes and modifies care for adolescent, adult, and older adult age groups.
