About The Position

The Endoscopy Technician plays a critical role in supporting gastroenterologists and other medical professionals by preparing and maintaining endoscopic equipment and assisting during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This position ensures that all endoscopic instruments are properly sterilized, assembled, and functioning to facilitate safe and efficient patient care. The technician is responsible for patient preparation, including explaining procedures and ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the process. They collaborate closely with the medical team to monitor patients during procedures and respond promptly to any needs or emergencies. Ultimately, the Endoscopy Tech contributes to the delivery of high-quality healthcare by maintaining a sterile environment and supporting the clinical team in performing accurate and effective endoscopic examinations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Endoscopy Technician training program or relevant medical technical training.
  • Certification as an Endoscopy Technician (e.g., Certified Endoscopy Technician - CET) or willingness to obtain certification within a specified timeframe.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of infection control practices and medical terminology related to endoscopy.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a hospital or outpatient endoscopy setting.
  • Advanced certifications such as Certified Gastroenterology Registered Nurse (CGRN) or similar.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and healthcare documentation software.
  • Strong background in patient care and comfort techniques.
  • Additional training in phlebotomy or other clinical support skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and sterilize endoscopic equipment and instruments before and after procedures to maintain strict infection control standards.
  • Assist physicians and nurses during endoscopic procedures by handling instruments, monitoring patient status, and ensuring procedural efficiency.
  • Set up procedure rooms with necessary supplies and equipment, ensuring all devices are functioning correctly prior to patient arrival.
  • Provide patient care by explaining procedures, positioning patients appropriately, and monitoring vital signs during and after procedures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of procedures, equipment maintenance, and patient information in compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to troubleshoot equipment issues and ensure timely availability of necessary tools.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulatory guidelines to protect patients, staff, and oneself from potential hazards.
