The Endoscopy reprocessing Technician supports endoscopic procedures by preparing equipment, ensuring proper cleaning, high-level disinfection, and maintenance of endoscopes and related equipment. This role ensures patient safety, efficient workflow, and compliance with infection prevention and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of endoscopic equipment and reprocessing practices
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Understanding of infection prevention standards

Nice To Haves

  • GI Technical Specialist (GTS) certification
  • CRCST or CBSPD certification
  • Experience in GI/Endoscopy, Sterile Processing, or healthcare setting

Responsibilities

  • Performs pre-cleaning, leak testing, manual cleaning, and high-level disinfection per manufacturer IFUs.
  • Operates Automated Endoscope Reprocessors (AERs).
  • Ensures proper drying, storage, and handling of scopes.
  • Documents all reprocessing activities accurately.
  • Inspects equipment for functionality and report issues.
  • Maintains inventory and restocks supplies.
  • Tracks scopes and ensures availability.
  • Follows infection control standards and proper PPE use.
  • Adheres to OSHA, CDC, and facility policies.
  • Maintains survey readiness (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS).
  • Completes procedure and reprocessing documentation.
  • Participates in audits and quality assurance activities.
  • Communicates effectively with physicians, nurses, SPD, and support departments.
  • Assists with patient transport and room turnover as needed.
  • Participates in meetings, training, and process improvement.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
