Financial Management Services (FMS), a department within Business Affairs, is responsible for creating an ecosystem which promotes innovative and sound financial administration policies and practices that balance controls, compliance, and customer service. FMS is primarily responsible for financial policy oversight, quality assurance and financial services at Stanford University and its affiliated entities. It also serves as a liaison to the hospitals and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). JOB PURPOSE As an Enablement Specialist in Financial Management Services (FMS), you will partner directly with campus clients and FMS business owners to improve how financial services are delivered and adopted. You will contribute to a proactive, holistic client support model by leveraging data trends, operational dashboards, and stakeholder feedback to translate insights into actionable recommendations, data-informed enablement and support solutions. A strong understanding of FMS systems, services, and policies will enable you to effectively connect client feedback with practical solutions that improve financial operations aligned to client needs, business owner priorities, and FMS goals and strategic initiatives. This role is a flexible, cross-functional position, providing support across enablement, training, content development, change management, and special projects that strengthen the overall client experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive projects with multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tactfulness.
  • Demonstrated creativity, problem solving, critical analysis, initiative, judgment and, decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and meet budget goals.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver proactive, data-driven enablement and support to improve how campus clients operate and engage with FMS’ systems, services and policies.
  • Partner with FMS business owners to understand service objectives, operational constraints, and success measures, and align enablement efforts accordingly.
  • Analyze client business processes and operational needs to develop tailored insights and targeted recommendations aligned with FMS goals and business owner priorities.
  • Utilize financial and operational data from Operational Dashboards to support client and business owner conversations, identify trends, and inform recommendations.
  • Support campus clients in understanding and adopting FMS tools, services, and solutions that optimize financial operations.
  • Collaborate with FMS internal subject matter experts and stakeholders to align client needs with FMS standards, systems, and services.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with campus stakeholders, including financial and operational partners, as well as FMS business owners.
  • Serve as a liaison between campus clients, FMS business owners, and internal FMS teams to support clear communication, shared understanding, and timely service delivery.
  • Participate in regular engagement meetings to understand client and business owner needs, share best practices, and identify opportunities for operational improvement.
  • Contribute to solutions that streamline business processes by incorporating client feedback, business owner input, emerging tools and technologies (such as AI), and FMS service enhancements.
  • Support the development, documentation, and execution of training and enablement plans for campus clients.
  • Assist with content development and maintenance, including drafting training materials, job aids, guidance documents, and other enablement resources that support client learning and adoption.
  • Collaborate with FMS Change Management partners to support change initiatives impacting campus clients.
  • Help clients understand upcoming changes, prepare for transitions, and adopt new processes, systems, and services aligned with business owner objectives.
  • Support change activities such as communication development, stakeholder readiness efforts, and reinforcement strategies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve client-facing processes through feedback analysis and data insights.
  • Collaborate with FMS business owners to translate insights into service improvements and enhanced enablement approaches.
  • Support continuous improvement by aligning enablement activities with evolving institutional priorities and FMS initiatives.
  • Promote financial management best practices and provide consultative guidance to clients navigating complex financial processes.
  • Flexibly contribute to special projects and emerging priorities across FMS, applying a problem-solving mindset and a willingness to step in where support is most needed.
