About The Position

Performs responsible skilled technical work responding, rescuing and transporting the sick and injured and administering emergency medical care at the EMT level. Work is performed under the regular supervision of a Shift Supervisor. Daily guidance and direction concerning patient care is provided by a Senior or Master Paramedic.

Requirements

  • Requires graduation from high school or a GED and North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician Credential.
  • Possession of an appropriate driver's license.
  • Possession of all certifications for the position as required by the State of North Carolina and the department.
  • Thorough knowledge of protocols, equipment and supplies employed in the emergency care of patients and victims of accidents and the street and road system and physical layout of the county.
  • General knowledge of the principles of anatomy and physiology and the techniques of emergency care, including diagnosis, proper treatment, and transportation.
  • Skill in diagnosing a victim's condition and applying emergency medical care.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; to keep records; prepare reports; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, patients and their families, associates, and the general public.

  • For Full-Time Positions Only - Requires enrollment in a Paramedic program with an anticipated graduation date of 24 months or less from date of hire.
  • Prefer some experience and training in emergency medical care.

  • Performs emergency medical care in accordance with established written guidelines and verbal instructions from physicians.

  • Transports persons to appropriate medical facilities.
  • Completes a variety of forms and reports pertaining to activities.
  • Maintains ambulance, equipment, and supplies in clean and proper working order.
  • Attends training courses to update skills and improve proficiency.
  • Assists with housekeeping, station maintenance, and routine office tasks.
  • Performs related tasks as required.
