The EMT Paramedic performs paramedic-level life support, stabilization procedures, and emergency medical care in the County Emergency Medical Services unit. The role provides advanced life support in an approved mobile medical unit, rescues victims, and administers life-sustaining treatment at emergency scenes and en route to area hospitals. The employee responds to emergency and non-emergency calls, treats sick or injured people, and transports them to medical facilities. As a member of a response unit, the employee is responsible for the medical care provided to patients and exercises considerable independent judgment when assessing their condition and applying short-term relief. The work involves the normal hazards of emergency rescue, including potential exposure to human body fluids and infectious diseases, and is subject to OSHA requirements for bloodborne pathogens. Care is provided in accordance with established EMT and medical procedures and departmental and local medical director-approved protocols. The position works under a shift supervisor and is evaluated through peer review, conferences, observation, discussion of procedures at emergency scenes, and public feedback.
