About The Position

Superior Ambulance is seeking dedicated EMTs and Paramedics to join their team. This PRN position offers variable shifts and involves providing critical pre-hospital care. Requirements

  • Graduation from a national EMT Program (required for EMTs)
  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) (required for EMTs)
  • EMT Basic (required for EMTs)
  • Driver's License (required for EMTs and Paramedics)
  • Paramedic Iowa Dept of Public Health (IDPH) Upon Hire (required for Paramedics)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support & First Aid - American Heart Association Upon Hire (required for Paramedics)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association within 30 Days (required for Paramedics)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association within 1 Year (required for Paramedics)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program - American Academy of Pediatrics within 1-1/2 Yrs (required for Paramedics)

Nice To Haves

  • One Year Certificate from College or Tech School (for EMTs)
  • National EMT (preferred for EMTs)
  • National Paramedic Upon Hire (preferred for Paramedics)

Responsibilities

  • Administer drugs within the EMT/Paramedic scope of practice by all available routes of medication administration following proper procedures and protocols under a physician's direction.
  • Administer first-aid treatment and life-support care to sick or injured persons in pre-hospital setting.
  • Attend training classes to maintain certification licensure, keep abreast of new developments in the field, or maintain existing knowledge.
  • Comfort and reassure patients.
  • Communicate with dispatchers and treatment center personnel to provide information about situation, to arrange reception of victims, and to receive instructions for further treatment.
  • Coordinate with treatment center personnel to obtain patients' vital statistics and medical history, to determine the circumstances of the emergency, and to administer emergency treatment.
  • Decontaminate ambulance interior following treatment of patient with infectious disease and report case to proper authorities.
  • Drive mobile intensive care unit to specified location, following instructions from emergency medical dispatcher.
  • Maintain vehicles and medical and communication equipment and replenish first-aid equipment and supplies.
  • Observe, record, and report to physician the patient's condition or injury, the treatment provided, and reactions to drugs and treatment.
  • Assess nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures (Paramedic specific).
  • Coordinate work with other emergency medical team members and police and fire department personnel (Paramedic specific).
  • Operate equipment such as electrocardiograms (EKGs), external defibrillators and bag-valve mask resuscitators in advanced life-support environments (Paramedic specific).
  • Perform emergency diagnostic and treatment procedures, such as stomach suction, airway management or heart monitoring, during ambulance ride (Paramedic specific).
