About The Position

The EMS Senior Technician will assist the EMS Supervisor in their duties and perform field work to help maintain the district HVAC Direct Digital Controls (DDC) and Energy Management Systems (EMS). The EMS Senior Technician will work with the LAUSD technical quality support team (TQST) to repair and maintain the HVAC DDC front end EMS and use them to encourage preventive maintenance, identify potential energy conservation measures, and suggest facility improvements. This role involves assisting with HVAC DDC and EMS design and submittal reviews, reviewing utility data and energy usage to identify schools for recommissioning and retro-commissioning, and reviewing EMS, energy data, and alarms to identify no-cost/low-cost energy conservation and preventive maintenance measures. The technician will perform site visits to investigate and evaluate EMS/DDC conditions, scope out and implement low-cost solutions or alternatives for EMS systems at existing school sites, respond to trouble calls, calibrate systems, and troubleshoot basic electrical and DDC problems. They will also assist in managing In-House Commissioning Projects.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ professional experience as an HVAC DDC technician.
  • Understanding of computer networking principles, including configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to wire, start up, and troubleshoot basic HVAC DDC maintenance issues.
  • Fundamental understanding of HVAC operations within a facility.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with multiple DDC manufacturers including Automated Logic, Carrier, Delta, Distech, Schneider Electric, or Trane.
  • Proven ability to debug installation issues during both static and dynamic start-up phases.
  • Experience supporting installation personnel and other contractors on project sites.
  • Extensive experience in performing or assisting in performance of commissioning of EMS.

Responsibilities
