About The Position

Person County Government is seeking a highly motivated, experienced EMS professional to serve as a Field Training Officer (Lieutenant) within the EMS Division. This position provides an important leadership role in developing, evaluating, and preparing EMS personnel to deliver safe, effective, and high-quality emergency medical services to the community. The starting salary will be determined with consideration given to both the candidate's educational background and relevant work experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record per County policy. If the position you are applying for requires a degree, education verification will be required as part of the hiring process. Resume, cover letter and certifications required. This position will have built-in overtime. The shift cycle is 24 hours on and 72 hours off.

Requirements

  • High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
  • Four (4) years of field paramedic or related experience.
  • Requires Certification as North Carolina Emergency Paramedic or the ability to obtain NCOEMS Paramedic certification upon hiring.
  • Certification at Operations Level for Hazardous Materials within one year of hiring.
  • Certification as a Basic Designated Infection Control Officer within one year of hiring.
  • NIMS ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800.
  • AHA BLS Instructor certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hiring.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
  • EVD or EVOC within one year of hiring.
  • Person County conducts pre-employment screening on candidates.
  • A pre-employment drug screen for all candidates.
  • Positions designated by Person County as Safety Sensitive are also subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
  • A background check for all candidates.
  • Some positions also require a credit check.
  • Additional screening and testing required for some positions.
  • Within 3 days of the start of your employment with the County, you must be able to provide proof of your eligibility to work in the US.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree or higher
  • Experience as a classroom instructor, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiar with OSHA Standards, Infection Control Policy and Procedures, and certified at the Operations Level for Hazardous Materials.
  • AHA ACLS, PALS and ITLS/PHTLS and NAEMT Instructor certifications
  • Certification as a NCOEMS Level I Instructor at the ALS Level (Paramedic)

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, delivers and documents EMS Education courses at the basic and advanced levels for EMS divisional employees on an assigned shift.
  • Provides input to employee performance evaluations related to training/education status.
  • Responsible for the coordination, implementation and supervision of the Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP) on an assigned shift.
  • Prepares EMS related instructional content and conducts training, or arranges training by others, on various topics relevant to the work of employees and documents training conducted.
  • Collaborates with the EMS Education Coordinator and the Field Medical Officer to address training issues and/or scope of practice issues, conducts and oversees remediation programs for EMS employees on an assigned shift with noted skills or knowledge deficiencies.
  • Participates in the Division Performance Improvement Program to identify trends in care delivery and present solutions to improve deficiencies.
  • Responsible for ensuring that education requirements of the Infection Control Program, Hazardous Materials Program and Health Information Portability and Accountability/ Patient Privacy Program on an assigned shift remain current.
  • Serves as a Basic Infection Control Officer for the EMS Division.
  • Assists in the hiring and evaluation process for potential new employees.
  • Participates with federal, state, regional, and local EMS agencies to enhance EMS education; serves on committees, boards, or other activities engaged in determining goals, objectives, and policies for EMS education.
  • Researches emerging trends, techniques and procedures in emergency medicine and adult education delivery.
  • Functions as the acting Field Medical Officer to an assigned shift when necessary due to vacancies.
  • Responds to emergency calls in a an ambulance and performs necessary rescue work in accordance with established protocols for Basic and Advanced Life Support; administers necessary emergency medical care, including the use of, but not limited to: transport ventilators, intravenous infusion pumps, suction units, immobilization equipment, syringes and medications, cardiac monitors/defibrillator/pacers, video laryngoscopes and other advanced airway equipment, and automatic chest compression devices.
  • Performs emergency medical acts in accordance with protocols established by the department and the County’s Medical Director; administers cardiac and narcotic medications via intravenous line, administers specified solutions by intravenous infusion, performs pulmonary ventilations and obtains EKG’s for cardiac diagnostics.
  • May be required to work in the County’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) or Mobile EOC or conduct other emergency support function (ESF) duties as required.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
