About The Position

Elk Valley Resources (EVR) is seeking an EMS Coordinator for their water treatment facilities. This role is responsible for supporting the systematization and implementation of regulatory requirements, coordinating environmental incident and inspection databases, managing related documents, and coordinating environmental training for EVR’s water treatment facilities. The position plays a crucial part in maintaining compliance with obligations and internal HSEC-HR Standards, and in proactively mitigating environmental and regulatory risks. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, integrity, collaboration, and environmental leadership. They should thrive in a fast-paced team environment, be able to prioritize demands, and have outstanding organizational skills with a systematic, process-driven mindset. The ability to understand and interpret complex regulations and assess their impact on the organization for continuous improvement is essential. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with advanced water treatment technologies, including Active Water Treatment Facilities (AWTFs), Saturated Rock Fills (SRFs), Antiscalant Addition Facilities (AAFs), and Reverse Osmosis – High Density Sludge (RO-HDS) treatment facilities, which are among the most advanced in the world for selenium and nitrate removal and calcite prevention. The position is part of a team advancing the objectives of EVR’s Elk Valley Water Quality Plan in British Columbia.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Environmental Science or similar subject area
  • Experience in the field of environmental compliance, environmental management systems (like ISO14001), monitoring in the water treatment and /or resource management fields
  • Experience providing technical direction and training on environmental risks and challenges associated with resource management
  • Comfort with influencing and supporting practical and process change management across various disciplines and departments
  • Technical knowledge of relevant environmental legislation, standards, and effective industry practices related to water management and resource development
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with environmental data management, analysis, reporting, utilizing databases and proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite® is an asset
  • Knowledge of environmental science, environmental engineering, biology, chemistry, water quality, water treatment, or fisheries is an asset
  • Experience in water treatment is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Collaborate with, and develop and maintain working relationships with, various disciplines and departments, as well as external agencies and communities of interest
  • Use systems and processes to track, implement obligatory requirements, environmental incidents and assurance activities
  • Develop training and awareness materials and deliver presentations to various departments
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary problem-solving sessions related to compliance and known risk sources to implement a variety of corrective and preventive action plans
  • Track and report on environmental performance metrics progress such as regulatory obligation delivery and various corrective action plans related to incidents and assurance activities
  • When needed, supervise Environmental Technicians and Coop students
  • Provide visible felt leadership through frequent collaboration between departments
